Biography
Andrew Madigan has lived in New York, Okinawa, Dubai, Tokyo, South Korea, Abu Dhabi, Virginia, the UK, Missouri (twice), and a small town in Ohio (for 10¼ excruciating months). He’s worked as a professor, university administrator, crime investigator, construction worker, driver, factory drone, food & book critic, military contractor, magazine editor, turf Zamboni operator, lifeguard, rugby and soccer coach, janitor, ghostwriter, terrible waiter, movie extra, voice artist and Bill Murray’s stand-in. Andrew has played rugby in the US, Asia and Europe, from his teens until his early-40s. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Guardian, Modern Drunkard, The Believer, The Observer, Lucky Peach, International Living, The Christian Science Monitor, The Iowa Review, The New Haven Review, The London Magazine, The Dubai Explorer, The North American Review and other periodicals. He’s won awards for short fiction, poetry and journalism, and his work has appeared in anthologies such as Travel Writing 101 and New Asian Short Stories. His first novel, Khawla’s Wall, was published by Second Wind and received two awards. The second, Dark End of the Street, is put out by Gumshoe Books. His latest novel, A Nice Safe Place, is the first part of a trilogy and will be published in 2024. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife and daughters.
