Author Interview
What inspired you to start writing?
I've always written some form of literature or other from a really young age. I excelled at English in high school, and loved creating stories. I suppose the sort of push to become a writer and pursue it as a potential career came from a time in my life when I began to feel lost and disconnected to the world. Being able to create my own worlds, and harness the power of a god in a sense, takes away the niggling existential dread that's always bubbling just below the surface.
Who are some of your favorite authors and books?
Stephen King has always been an inspiration. I remember reading Misery when I was 12 and being blown away by the sheer power of the book.
Recently, Sean Platt has become my favourite author. I blew through The Inevitable and Yesterday's Gone series in about 25 days. Currently working my way through Dead City.
I also love Kurt Vonnegut, Kate Chopin, Edgar Allan Poe and Chris Kuzneski.
What would you like to tell readers who have just discovered your books, but haven't read one yet?
Just enjoy the ride. I totally get that my books are not for everyone. All I ask is that you give it a shot, and if you like it, pass it on to your friend!
Who is the favorite character you created, and how did they come into being?
I really like the villain I created for Lionesses & Lemmings. Funnily, he came into being when I was attempting (unsuccessfully) to kick start a comic book series. Chillingsley is the sort of pinnacle of all that I deem evil in a literary sense.
My favourite character though, is one that I created for a Day&D campaign: notorious flamboyant pirate Cueball Half-beard. He will, hopefully, be appearing in some of my books very soon!
What are your future plans as a writer?
I have so many books and plays in mind that it's hard to put into words.
My original plan has always been 5 books in 5 years. I'm one down with 4 of each to go!
