Deirdre Oliver

Deirdre Oliver

Author biography

Deirdre Oliver's unique background in the theatre and psychiatry bring an edgy realism and black humour to her action packed thrillers. Starting at ten with Agatha Christie she has read every crime writer in existence until eventually she wrote one herself.

When her early writing career stalled due to injury she turned to short fiction and plays. She won many awards with these but always hoped to write novels again.

She has now written thirteen of them as well as two novellas and has three more novels in progress. Unlike many Australian writers she doesn't write about the remote outback. She writes about what she knows, the city and suburban streets where 80% of Australians actually live.

Deirdre is also an artist and illustrates picture books, sometimes, but not always, for children.
