Ethan Shaw
Biography
Ethan Shaw graduated high school in 2021 and now majors in History at SUNY Geneseo in New York State. His debut novella Annabelle is his first substantial work of fiction. He first began work on the novella after taking a high school literature course. A year later, when progress on the book was slow but sure, it was a college course on Ernest Hemingway that inspired him to work fervently until finishing the novella, which he did shortly thereafter. Ethan now considers Ernest Hemingway, both the writer and the man, to be his most profound influence as a young writer.
Ethan Shaw was born in Rochester, New York, and has lived there his whole life. He considers himself to be a true Rochesterian and has always been a staunch “west-sider” in the west side v. east side debate, which he has described as “Outsiders-esque”.
Ethan writes mostly historical fiction, purposely and carefully blending “fictional” and “real-life” elements in order to tell authentic and emotional stories. As a history major, he spends much of his time living in the past, and his stories are an obvious reflection of that. One of his favorite parts of the writing process is the odd research that must be done in order to remain period correct. He once spent a sizable amount of time researching the history of stage lighting in theatre while writing a scene in Annabelle. It is the small things like this that have made Ethan enjoy writing so much. As a young writer, he has his whole life ahead of him and he hopes to expand his bibliography very soon.
