Jack Harrowsmith is the pen name of Bruce Smith, who was born in Cornwall, Ontario and grew up in the east end of Ottawa. Starting at age fourteen, he logged thousands of miles hitchhiking across Canada in the early 70’s. At age seventeen, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces, serving with the Royal Canadian Regiment and the Intelligence Branch, retiring with the rank of Master Warrant Officer. During a busy, thirty-year career that included postings to Cyprus, Germany, Israel, Bosnia and Washington D.C, he earned a B. In 1990, he was awarded one of Canada’s highest military decorations, the Meritorious Service Cross, for his work in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
He writes Tales from the Borderlands, a series of genre-blending novels and short stories set along the northern Minnesota-Ontario border in the fifties and early sixties.
Jack Harrowsmith and Bruce Smith live in Kingston, Ontario, where they write full-time. After forty-four eventful years, Jack is still married to his resourceful, multi-talented high school sweetheart.
