Mary Ellen Donat

Author biography

Mary Ellen Donat, a native of Richmond, Indiana, is the author of In the Shadow of Her Hat and Smiles (an Asher and Meri series), historical fiction set in her Midwest hometown. She is also the author of a true crime narrative, “Unmasked.”

An honors graduate of Indiana University, Mary Ellen began her professional writing career as a history columnist and features reporter for a Gannett newspaper. Her writing has appeared in magazines, corporate communications, and an international public offering. As a member of Richmond (IN) Common Council, Mary Ellen wrote the first clean indoor air legislation in the nation, as reported by USA Today.

Actively involved in her community, Mary Ellen lives with her husband Tom in Richmond, IN.
