Susie Black

Named Best US Author of the Year by N. N. Lights Book Heaven, multi-award-winning cozy mystery author Susie Black was born in the Big Apple but now calls sunny Southern California home. She has published six books. Books seven and eight are slated for release in 2025.

She reads, writes, and speaks Spanish, albeit with an accent that sounds like Mildred from Michigan went on a Mexican vacation and is trying to fit in with the locals. Since life without pizza and ice cream as her core food groups wouldn’t be worth living, she’s a dedicated walker to keep her girlish figure. A voracious reader, she’s also an avid stamp collector and sailor. Susie lives with a highly intelligent man and is the mother of one incredibly brainy but smart-aleck adult son who inexplicably blames his sarcasm on an inherited genetic defect.

IN THE AUTHOR’S WORDS

Author interview

Interview submitted .

What inspired you to start writing?

I came to write in the cozy mystery genre because I love solving puzzles. My parents would certainly confirm I have always asked questions, and I am naturally curious (some narrow-minded people say I am nosy…go figure…LOL). So, writing mysteries was the natural next step for me to take.

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

Janet Evanovich-Stephanie Plum Series
Joan Hess-Arly Series
Anne George-Southern Sisters Series
Elaine Viets, Laura Levine, Joanne Fluke
Donald E. Westlake, Carl Hiaasen, Tim Dorsey, S.V. Date, Harlen Coben, Elmore Leonard

What would you like to tell readers who have just discovered your books, but haven't read one yet?

I write humorous cozy mysteries because given the state of the world today, it is my goal to give my readers the gift of laughter.

Who is the favorite character you created, and how did they come into being?

Hannah White is my favorite character. She came to be as an image of myself as a high school student.

What are your future plans as a writer?

My plans as a writer are to continue writing new stories in my existing series by developing new characters, and new plots. In addition, I plan to continue developing new series.
