Identity, Theft, and Family Loyalty in Mistaken Identity Crisis

A thief with a distinctive calling card has reached Braxton campus, while jewelry thefts in town resemble an unresolved case from eight years earlier. James J. Cudney’s Mistaken Identity Crisis gives Kellan an investigation that already stretches beyond one location and one moment in time.

A new crime with an older echo

The similarity between the current thefts and the older case gives the mystery a question about recognition. Does a familiar pattern provide a dependable lead, or will understanding it require more than noticing a resemblance?

When a body is discovered on campus, Kellan is called in to investigate. The new death adds urgency to a situation already complicated by an elusive thief and an unfinished earlier case. Several demands now compete for his attention, and progress on one problem cannot simply be counted as progress on all of them.

Family loyalties outside the campus

Kellan also works with April to end a feud between the Castigliano and Vargas crime families. That responsibility brings a different problem: an ongoing conflict between groups bound by loyalty.

The fourth Braxton Campus Mystery gives Kellan several threads to manage at once. The crime puzzle asks him to examine uncertain identities, while family loyalty creates another source of pressure. His personal connections remain important even when the investigation pulls him toward a problem requiring careful attention of its own.
