An Angel's Whisper (The Whisper Duology Book 1)
A Love Heaven Forbids. A Battle Hell Demands.
When Catalina meets the mysterious Aaron on a cruise, their connection is immediate—deep, haunting, and impossible to ignore. But Aaron is no ordinary man. He’s a guardian angel, forbidden from falling in love. And when a jealous demon curses him with human emotions, everything begins to unravel.
As Catalina is drawn deeper into a world of celestial laws and hidden truths, nightmares resurface, long-kept family secrets emerge, and ancient powers stir. With her life—and soul—caught between Heaven’s judgment and Hell’s fury, she must confront a destiny more powerful than she ever imagined.
In a war where angels and demons clash, and love is the most dangerous risk of all, Catalina and Aaron must decide what they’re willing to sacrifice.
A forbidden love. A broken rule. And a fight to survive where the price of remembering may be greater than forgetting.
Excerpt from the book
The air felt heavy as I looked to the sky, smelling remnants of last night’s rain, a hint of spring teasing my senses. Suddenly, a car door slammed, jolting me back to the task at hand. Following her from a distance, I noticed her carelessness. She stomped through puddles, soaking her shoes. She wore a wrinkled blue shirt, probably taken from her bedroom floor. With her hair hastily tied in a messy bun, she rushed across the college campus. A boy walked past her, too close for my liking. He even dared to look back at her, but she was oblivious.
I often wonder what she’d think of me if she knew. Would she be frightened? Curious? Angry that I’ve seen some of her most private moments?
I’ve watched her cross this same path a hundred times. People are always rushing, bumping into each other. I can’t count the number of times I wanted to protect her from those invading her personal space.
As she reached for the door handle, I saw her pause, finally noting her surroundings. She shivered, whether from the cold or the sensation of being watched. I couldn’t tell. The idea of her sensing my presence brought a thrill of excitement. Looking back, I watched her shake off the tremor and walk forward, closing the door behind her. Crouching, I waited.
Before emerging from the classroom, I sensed her presence. Over time, I have become familiar with her in ways she will never comprehend. When the students got ambitious, pushing through the door, one of the ‘extras,’ as I like to call them, brushed against her bare arm, and his face transformed as he looked at her with greedy eyes. I had to act swiftly. I stood, a knife sliding down from inside my sleeve, as I inched toward the group. Just one prick from the tip of my blade. No one would know, and he’d cease to exist.
Unseen by the humans, I dashed toward her. As my fingertip grazed her hand, she kept walking, but I shut my eyes and absorbed the energy, my strength magnifying. I approached swiftly, so the extra looked at me with shock, but then, he relaxed and turned to follow her. That would be his last mistake.
As I grabbed the back of his head, the blade sank in, and he vanished into a puff of dust.
Every day she’s out in the world, I worry. Watching over her has consumed every part of me, my mind constantly thinking of all the ways she could be in danger. One day, I hope to show her how much she means to me. But until then, I will continue to do what I must for my little treasure.
