A haunted legacy awakens in Forgotten Inheritance

After the death of his father, young Nick shoulders more than any child should—caring for his little brothers and trying to hold what’s left of his family together. When a forgotten mansion lands in their laps through a surprise inheritance, it feels like hope. But the house carries a past that won’t stay buried.

Ghosts whisper through the halls. Shadows crawl in the corners. And something darker waits beneath it all.

As Nick navigates hidden rooms and time-warped adventures filled with castles, dungeons, and buried treasure, tragedy strikes—and his resolve is pushed to the edge. Meanwhile, the Man in White must confront the day he’s dreaded for years. A demon has discovered his true name, and the hunt begins anew.

Blending heartache, horror, and the supernatural, Forgotten Inheritance continues David Musser’s Keep In The Light series with chilling momentum.

Step into the shadows—Forgotten Inheritance is available now.

Excerpt from the book

In a white, plastic room surrounded by lights, the Man in White was laid out on a bench. It was not the most comfortable place to be, but he needed time to be alone. The alternative this time of year was not acceptable.

He had given the staff the week off. Thomas and Alex had gone in search of a cure for Paul: a Haitian priestess they hoped would be able to help transfer the demon to another vessel. She’d helped others in the past, so they had to take a chance and travel to meet her.

The Man in White saw no reason to keep the rest of the staff at the facility. Not this week. He'd heard of people having birthday weeks and wondered if anyone did a death-day week for their lost family. Things were slow in the facility, especially with hunting and investigation teams out searching for different known and unknown supernatural entities. That left him and Paul the only two humans at the facility.

Paul was possessed or controlled by an entity. It was unknown if it was Paul's mental preparedness over the years, or the salted iron room he was in, but the entity was not as active as it once was; being only able to torture Paul, it had seemed to grow bored with that and been quiet as of late.

Could it be saving its energy for something? He thought of Paul with his arms resting behind his head, and the white light was oddly comforting. It was deadly to the shadows and felt good to him; the shadow creatures could hide even in the most minute places, so special rooms were made for them, and every visitor had to go through a lighted hallway before entering.

This is the best place for me tonight, or at least the best place I am able to go.

The facility was trying to find Kane and Lucky, two independent people fighting the shadows.

"We were close behind at the hospital, and I'm glad they are still trying to destroy the shadows," he mused aloud.

It took a lot of resources to be able to clean things up without them making headlines around the world, and so far, they've been pretty successful, with only a brief mention on a local horror podcast about some strange happenings.

The Mother Shadow, while not dead, was weakened, and several of her offspring, if not all, had been destroyed.

"A great day for the B Team… in truth, they are acting more like the top team now." The sadness in his voice poured out of him in waves. Not that he disliked the fact that Lucky and Kane were having success. It was that the facilities teams seemed to have taken it on the chin too many times lately.

Paul was not on his team, but he still found it hard to accept his situation. Concentrating with his eyes closed, he saw Paul resting in his cell. He was lying, much like himself. The main difference was that his cell was made of salted iron with a sally port type, where if the outer door was open, the inner door was shut, and vice-versa. Just one of the many safeguards to keep the demon from escaping.
