Cursed Weather (Vengeful Spirits Book 4)

Cursed Weather (Vengeful Spirits Book 4)

Cursed Weather

A supernatural storm descends on Gideon’s Hollow in Cursed Weather, the fourth book in Michelle Godard-Richer’s Vengeful Spirits series. When a cursed Nor’easter cuts the town off from the outside world, roads vanish beneath the snow, power lines collapse, and everyone seeking shelter becomes trapped with something far more dangerous than the blizzard.

Maya Pendleton, a young guardian angel, senses a malevolent force moving through the clouds and calls on her mentor, Hannah, for help. But Hannah must brave the storm from Boston as conditions grow increasingly deadly. Meanwhile, a frozen stranger arrives at Davis’s bookstore carrying a dark presence in his aura and a threat rooted in vengeance, grief, and folklore.

Blending horror, supernatural suspense, and Japanese onryō legend, Cursed Weather follows Maya as she confronts a spirit powerful enough to bury Gideon’s Hollow—and everyone inside it.

Read Cursed Weather and return to the haunted world of the Vengeful Spirits series.

Excerpt from the book

Maya Pendleton polished the glass display case showcasing homemade muffins, cupcakes, and cookies. With the incoming Nor’easter predicted to dump massive amounts of snow, business at Rowena’s Coffee slowed after the morning rush. Only a handful of workers from the nearby shops trickled in for lunch.

Along with the storm clouds, a sense of impending doom from unknown origins drifted into town, crawling along Maya’s skin and setting her on edge. She hadn’t yet uncovered the full scope of her abilities as a guardian angel, nor how they would affect her in all situations. Magnified instinctive survival skills warned her of dangers both big and small in the same way, leaving her to interpret the situation on her own.

“We’re calling it early.” Rowena lifted an apron over her head. “Grab some food for the road. If this storm is as bad as they’re saying, we won’t be here for the next few days. It’ll go to waste. Have you checked your generator and emergency supplies?”

“I checked the generator before I came in this morning. It’s working and we have lots of gas. Mom still has her regular stockpile of dried goods and cases of water in case we lose power. Do you have everything you need, Ro?”

“I always do. You might want to check on Davis next door. I’m sure being from Denver he’s used to snow, but he might not realize how isolated Gideon’s Hollow can be if the highways become impassable.”

Maya grabbed a broom from the corner. “We’re supposed to meet for pizza later. I planned to warn him then.”

Rowena smirked. “Is there something brewing with you two?”

“No. Nothing like that. We’re just friends.”

Rowena flipped the rustic wooden sign in the window from open to closed and locked the deadbolt. “Well, that’s how it often starts.”

With the need to keep her immortality a secret, Maya couldn’t explain the complexity of the situation to her boss. Davis was a regular human. The only human who knew of her death and resurrection. She’d saved his life and freed him from two vengeful spirits that had used him to unleash a horde of stinking zombies. Thankfully, Hannah—another guardian angel—had been there to help them vanquish said zombies.

None of those experiences with Davis had struck a romantic note, and she didn’t expect that to change. She treasured his friendship and their shared experiences because he was the one person—besides Hannah—she didn’t have to keep secrets from.

She filled the dishwasher and turned it on while Rowena boxed up the leftover food, then they bundled into their coats and boots.

Maya leaned her weight into the door, forcing it open against the strong winds determined to keep it shut. “Go ahead, Ro.”

The wind blew the hood off her head as Rowena stepped past her onto the sidewalk.

Maya maintained her grip on the door and shut it gently, preventing it from slamming into the frame.

“Good thinking. You probably saved the glass from shattering.” Rowena locked the door and zipped the key in her pocket. “Have you been working out? That couldn’t have been easy.”
