Monster Party (Monster Files Book 5)

The Monster Files Are Public, and the Truth Is Awake

Frank Miller knows how to pull the perfect prank and track down the impossible. But when his new principal, Arthur Gavin, turns a cruel punishment into something far more sinister, Frank is pulled into a conspiracy hidden beneath an abandoned shipping warehouse.

Injured, hunted, and warned to stay away, Frank breaks into Gavin & Sons Shipping and discovers a secret that changes everything: an experimental human heart known as Subject 3, a deadly monster core, and a principal determined to keep his operation buried.

With his partner Smith at his side, Frank must expose the truth before the evidence disappears, the conspiracy closes in, and Subject 7 is fully unleashed. The chase is over. The files are public. The monster is awake.

Excerpt from the book

Frank was casually walking down the school hallway, ignoring everything and everyone, as always. The only thing on his mind was solving the next case. And, of course, proving that monsters exist was important too. What would be next? he would ask himself. That would be answered sooner than expected.

A shadow loomed over him, and when he realized it, a cold shiver came over Frank. “Mr. Miller, we need to have a word,” a harsh voice said from behind. Frank glanced back to see the principal standing there, looking somewhat upset.

“It wasn’t me,” Miller replied with a grin.

“So the fake dog poo I found in my chair wasn’t you?”

“Nope.”

Now the principal looked like he was ready to explode. “Be honest,” the man grunted. “Was it you?”

“If it was me, wouldn’t you already have me in your office?” Miller asked.

“I’m giving you a chance to be honest,” the principal responded. Every kid knew when a teacher or principal had no proof of guilt—when they gave you a chance to say you did something wrong. Frank was never going to say that he pulled that prank on the new principal. And besides, he seemed meaner than the last one. “I didn’t do anything, Principal Gavin,” said Miller.

“Alright,” Gavin smiled. “If I catch you doing anything wrong—just one little thing—you will not enjoy your punishment. I promise you that.” He tapped his nose with his finger before pointing back at Miller. Frank wasn’t sure why; it must have been his way of saying he had his eyes on him. Miller turned his attention back to his locker after the principal walked away. He took his things and made his way out of the building.

Miller was on his way home and couldn’t wait to meet Smith at the treehouse. On the walk home, his good mood changed. It felt like something in the air had shifted. Miller could also swear he was being followed, but when he would stop to look around, all he could see was a bunch of kids, maybe ten years of age, playing tag. Frank made his way into the treehouse, expecting to see Smith there. Oddly, though, she wasn’t there waiting for him as usual. He called out her name, waiting for Smith to jump out and scare him. That didn’t happen either; there was no prank lying in wait. He shrugged and went over to his desk and went through the files that he had put together long ago.
