Excerpt from the book
In a small rustic square brown hut just on the outskirts of the city walls in the Kingdom of Beltophia, lived a poor family of four. In this family of four, were a mother and a father who had two children of which were both girls.
The hut they lived in was small, with a small sitting room that was open to the kitchen, and a long hallway which led to three bedrooms. The walls in the hut were old, dry and cracked. In some places the walls had holes in them and had been covered by mud or whatever they could find, as they were not rich or able to ask anyone to help them. This was the same for the windows; some of them were cracked or weren't correctly filled, and so gaps in the window frames had opened up. Sometimes it was so cold that they had to use loads of extra blankets to stay warm in the icy winter months. The hut was also crooked, so the walls slanted and the rooms were at odd angles.
The mother and father were sat in their small messy kitchen eating their breakfast, and with them was their youngest daughter. She was sitting closest to the entrance to the hallway with her back to it; her name was Sophia. Sophia had medium-light brown hair and brown eyes like her father, Eon, who had dark brown hair and brown eyes. Sophia was very outspoken and at any occasion would stand up for herself and her sister.
Their eldest daughter was still in her bedroom down the long hallway; her name was Victoria. Victoria was different from Sophia. She was four years older than her sister and had a meek personality. She had straight, long blonde hair and green eyes like her real father. Victoria's father had died in the Kingdom of Paradisia just months before Victoria was born, so she was Sophia's half-sister. Victoria, however, did not know that she came from the Kingdom of Paradisia, and neither did Sophia.
Sometimes Victoria would be bullied in school; she would be picked on and pushed about. Once somebody had tried to set fire to her hair at which Sophia had lunged in angrily and just about stopped it. But in the process, she had gotten burnt on her right arm, which had unfortunately scarred. But this didn't bother Sophia, she kept her spirits high and her head held high too. The child who had committed the crime; however, was never seen again, nor their parents. This resulted in rumours that they had been killed or taken to Paradisia to face the judgement of the king and queen, but nobody really knew.
The girls’ mother, who was called Emilia, had short, light-brown hair that barely passed by her ears and bright blue eyes. She was skinny but tall. Eon and Emilia had met a year after Victoria's real father had died and when Emilia had moved to the Kingdom of Beltophia, they soon fell in love. Eon treated Victoria like she was his own, though he did not know who Emilia really was, and she didn't tell him.
