The Faroes Affair (Martini Squad Adventures Book 3)
A Deadly Pattern. A Global Conspiracy. A Race Against Time.
A South Korean engineer, two U.S. Navy officers, and an Italian parliamentarian are murdered in seemingly connected attacks. Each victim is a successful woman. Each killer appears linked to the INCEL community. And each death raises the same question: who is really behind them?
CIA operative Charles “Bryce” Axworthy and the Martini Squad are assigned to uncover the connection before another high-profile target is killed—Dame Catherine “Cat” Morgan, the newly appointed head of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service. The investigation takes Bryce, Angel, Taonga, Mikayla, and I.Q. from Macao and Virginia Beach to South Korea, Rome, New York City, Berlin, and London, following a trail of violence, manipulation, and hidden motives.
As the Squad closes in on the truth, they encounter a powerful new threat—and an old enemy believed to have been dead for years. What begins as a murder investigation becomes a globe-spanning intelligence operation with consequences far beyond the next name on the list.
Follow the Martini Squad into an action-packed international thriller of espionage, conspiracy, and deadly secrets.
Excerpt from the book
Catherine Sarah Morgan, Companion of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, or CMG, known simply as ‘Cat’ to her friends, sat in her office at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., answering emails, returning phone calls, and performing all the other daily activities that any embassy staffer would perform. The only thing was that the petite blonde, who looked like a combination of the actor Vanessa Kirby and the classical organist Anna Lapwood, was not an ordinary embassy staffer. Her title was Assistant Deputy Head of Mission, effectively making her the number three British diplomat in the United States. In reality, she was Head of Station for Station ‘A,’ America, for His Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, more popularly known as MI6. Under diplomatic cover, she was a spy in the service of the British government, and she was a very busy woman.
With a new ambassador appointed only one month ago, Cat oversaw the preparation of several briefings he required to, as the Americans say, ‘get up to speed’ in his new posting. So far, the briefings had gone well, a testament to the amazing members of her staff, and the Prince of Darkness had not yet reared his ugly head. Cat was busy drafting a response to a request from her counterpart at the German Embassy when her desk phone rang.
“Catherine Morgan,” she said after picking up the receiver.
“Cat, this is Lord Mandelson. Is there something you need to tell me?”
Cat looked at her desk phone in confusion for a moment before answering.
“Ah, no, Mr. Ambassador. Why do you ask?”
“Because the head of your service is sitting here in my office. Any idea why?”
“No idea, Mr. Ambassador.”
“Could you please meet me here? He’s most insistent.”
“On my way, Mr. Ambassador,” Cat replied just before she hung up the phone.
Cat stood up from her desk, pulled her suit jacket from the coat rack in her office, put it on, and headed down the hall, straightening her suit as she walked and performing what her Star Trek fan of a husband called the ‘Picard Maneuver.’ After a brief walk, she arrived at the Ambassador’s outer office. The Ambassador’s executive assistant looked up from his computer and pointed toward the inner office door.
“Go on in, ma’am. They are expecting you,” the assistant said in polished Received Pronunciation.
Cat nodded in thanks and headed for the door. She gave it the customary three knocks before opening it and entering the inner office. She closed the door behind her and saw the Ambassador sitting behind his desk, with a man seated to his right in one of the office’s guest chairs: Finn, the enigmatic head of the British Secret Intelligence Service. Cat nodded to each man in turn.
